Gap Analysis


Gap Analysis:

  • A resource assessment tool a laboratory can use to compare its actual performance with its potential performance.

  • Points out Non-compliances or Non-conformances, a list of the "Gaps."

  • While not an ISO/IEC 17025:2005 requirement, it is the best way to take an objective look at overall laboratory operations.

  • Assists in preparation for accreditation in accordance with the requirements:  

     

    • Assess compliance to the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 International Standard.

    • Assess compliance to the ASCLD/LAB Supplemental Requirements (2011 Edition).

    • Assess the adequacy and completeness of documented policies and procedures.

    • Determine how to address the requirements of both standards.

    • Identify the missing elements required by both standards.

    • Point out shortcomings in the laboratory staff's training.

    • Define how best to proceed with accreditation documentation.

    • Determine the resources necessary to complete the accreditation process.

  • There are 301 ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Clauses and 121 ASCLD/LAB Supplemental Requirements.

  • How many are clauses are applicable to Digital Forensics? 

  • What do you have to do to attain compliance with applicable clauses?

  • You will not know the answers to these questions unless a thorough Gap Analysis is conducted of all your laboratory's operations!
